The course of the the program so far have provided information on the importance of quality improvement as an educator's role. Educators are given an important responsibility because they are the one who groom students in becoming professional. They are the ones who are responsible to test and evaluate programs, systems and technology to enhance the learning as well as practice. Educators in both the educational sector and the clinical setting have valuable roles. They have to ensure that quality of programs and practice is encouraged especially with the increase of technology and its effect of the teaching and learning. One of the assignments that represented my best learning was module seven “Technology in Distance Education. In reviewing the assignment it focuses on how technology has improved our health care system and educators must be ready to move with the times. Students today have the world at the tip of their fingers and are coming to classroom with knowledge of the subject to be taught. Educators must be ready to handle these students and encourage the good behaviours with positive reinforcement and discourage the bad with negative reinforcement. The use of technology in education is a reflection of what is happening in the communities. There is a growing demand for technology and educators are challenged to use creative ideas in teaching while making use of the technological system.
In this assignment there was an opportunity to explore how students are to use the web to discover information. The web provides a great deal of information but finding out which site is best to extract information from is appropriate. This module assignment encourages educators to ensure that their students are well educated on the appropriate use of web-sites when researching information that is valid and reliable. The professor of the course also gave positive feedback indicating that the assignment was well done and adding that one of the only ways to truly evaluate rigor is peer-review which is why research must be published in peer-reviewed journals to be the basis for evidence-based practice.
This assignment represented my best learning because I believe that technology and computers have become the part of the culture of education. Health care providers and commuters are very verse with the technological system and they feel comfortable in exploring before any intervention. Patients today are more prepared and knowledgeable about their health care condition because of the technological information age. They are able to research information before and after a health care consultation and help themselves better understand what is wrong. Technology is still evolving and the public are ready to embrace it and make the best of it.
Technology has also benefited the students in the health care clinical setting for both teaching strategy and learning resources. Students must learn to use the different technological tools for patient care, and also for computerized charting. There are also patient simulators that help students communicate, so they will be more confident when dealing with the real world. Technology continues to prompt system change as the role played by the nurse and client, the environment and their relationship changes.

After completing this course i examined the nursing educator in the emergency department. She provided us with continuing education on a new ventilator that we would be using in our department. After everyone had gone through the training of the ventilator it was them being used in the department. A the start of every shift there was a series of checks needed to be performed on the machine. A nurses was assigned to carry out the checks on each shift. I recall coming to the department and thinking why do we need to complete all these self check of the equipment every morning when it is indicating that it is powered on. However, having done this course i realize it's importance and need for the checks. The check served as continuous quality checks and improvement. The reality of the check were to identify any problems prior to its uses to avoid any patient safety problem when ready to use. The educator also followed up with yearly checks of the our skills to ensure that we remained up to date with its functions. The role of the educator is to ensure that we kept up to date with our competences and in addition to avoid harm to the patient if the ventilator was not functioning properly. In the emergency department there are several monitoring systems that we as nurses have to ensure that we participate in competences yearly to keep our skills up to date. The educator provides dates for us to come in and have return demonstration on the uses of these machines. This competency program is vital to nurses as we sometime don't use all the equipment and new technology that is brought to the department on a daily basis. Although we are given an in service on the equipment when they arrive we tend to forget how they function. Having competencies yearly and when necessary for nurses on the use of these equipment does not only refresh our memory but it also ensure patient's safety. This course served me as a nurse and as a novice educator. I was able to learn the importance of the quality checks and also the importance of yearly competences and reviews on the equipment.
